I have a great fear about this travel to the USA. I think that my listening skills aren’t good enough for a conversation.
For example, the following word pairs sound the same to me: dad and dead, week and weak, live and leave, pan and pen. I guess I’ll have much trouble with this issue in my new country.
Or don’t. Maybe in few weeks I’ll be able to distinguish between these words.
I know I’m not a stupid guy (at least, not a big one), but I have this fear.

You have to remember that these words are often used in different contexts :P
Probably you will not listen something like “I lost my pan, btw, can you borrow me a pen?”… And there is no confusion with “My dad is dead”. :P
It’s not thaaaaat difficult. In the beginning you’ll think in Portuguese and try to understand English. When you start to apologize after an accident using “I’m sorry” it’s a good signal that you’ve setup your brain to English as default :P
